With winter getting close I have the GL back on the lift after a 700 mile break-in period. Going to finish it up with new tires, fork seals and polishing the fork legs.

YEAH !  8)
The bike is looking good Johnie.

I purchased the Bridgestone as I liked them on the other GW I sold. Thanks for the tire recommendations.

New seals in the forks. Cleaning and polishing the lowers. Pic is of the first pass with the 320. Next will be either the 400 or 600. Then will remove them to the buffer.

Hunting and the holidays with family slowed me down a bit. Not complaining at all. However, it’s sure nice to get back in the shop again! Got the forks all polished up and very happy with the results. Used Aircraft stripper to get the clear off. Then went with 320 & 600 paper. Finished up with the buffer and white rouge. I never put clear back on so I can touch it up whenever needed.

Any pros or cons about switching from DOT 3 to DOT 4 in this GL? Not crazy about about how the 3 eats paint and plastics. I have new brake lines coming and was considering. Thx for your thoughts here...

DOT4 will eat paint too.  DOT5.1 will too as it is also glycol based.
Going to DOT4 is a no brainer, higher perf and no complete replacement like a DOT5 silicone system would require.

Did reading about 5.1 and gleaned it was made for better performance in ABS tiny valves and EV applications with even higher temp rating.only EVs and high performance vehicles with ABS generally use the DOT5.1.

Are you attempting to get something that won't eat paint or otherwise?

I saw on a Chevelle site they said 4 won't eat paint? Not correct I guess. Overall it sounds like the 4 is better anyway, right?

Dot4 has a higher boiling point than Dot3 is why it is better

Johnie…… Stick with what’s recommended.unless you are building from ground zero. All your existing rubber seals and gaskets in the original master, calipers and lines are designed for DOT3. And have been soaked in it forever….

The 700 miles I put on this bike from July - October last year I was amazed at how effective the brakes were with the double front calipers vs the single caliper on the 750's. Since I am not an aggressive rider and knowing how they worked last year I will stay with the DOT 3. Your thoughts have been very helpful. Thanks fellas!
