Ignition Coils Warm To The Touch, Not Running
« on: April 07, 2023, 02:52:12 PM »
So I threw the battery in earlier today, to show my brother who's in town for a few days, how the bike looks with the blinkers, headlight, horn, ect, all working properly. After I shut it down (mind you the bike has not been started yet after 2.5 years of this one off rebuild), my hand inadvertently touched the ignition coils and to my suprise it was warm to the touch, they both were. I'm running an m.Unit, custom wiring, the whole nine yards. Coils are Dynatek 5 ohms. Stock points.

I'm curious why the coils were warm.

Am I clueless to something obvious here or does this sound odd to anyone else too?
Thankful for everyone on this forum. Grateful to continue to learn so much.

If you don't shut off the kill on tge handle bars the co8ks get power when the bike has the ignition on.

Thank you all for your replies. It never occurred to me they'd get warm without the bike running. I've still got alot to learn.

To get engine to run, coils must be energized.
