Cb750f2 rear wheel questions
« on: April 07, 2023, 04:31:57 PM »
I just picked up a rear f2 wheel in rough shape to swap onto my k4 chopper but I ha e a couple of questions. Are the brake rotors the same as the front rotor and are the spokes the same as the k model? I have a design I have worked out based on a retrofit brake that I have laying around from a softail and I plan on running a 16" harley rim like my current setup is but I need to get a brake setup and get spokes ordered to build the wheel. These spokes are probably going to just get cut off since they are so rusted into place.

Sorry but no to both.....
Rear rotor is different.
F spokes are different than the K spokes.
Buchanan Spokes might be able to make up 16" spokes for the F hub.

BTW F2 and F3 had comstar wheels, not wire spoke. F0(75) and F1(76) had spoke wheels.

Mantree,

I think you’ll find the rear disc on the cb750 f’s (F0,F1,F2,F3) all shared the same rear disc with the 77&78 GL1000s.  The rear dual opposed caliper kit was still available for the gold wings but not for the 750f’s when I did my 76f1. I used the old gold wing kit on my f1, but I’m remember there was something extra included that the 750f don’t use or the gl has something different or extra but it didn’t prevent rebuilding the F1’s caliper.

And like all ready mentioned the early Fs 75/76 had spokes and a single K front disc. The later Fs 77/78 had front dual discs and smaller calipers. Both different than early Fs and K’s… The dual disc on the F’s may have been borrowed or shared with the GLs but I’m not sure without looking the part numbers up..👀

Weren't the F2/F3 (77/78) F models Comstars? I'm pretty sure the F0/F1 (75/76) were spoked front and rear with single front and rear disk brakes.

Sorry the listing said 78/79 so I thought f2 but I guess the listing was wrong. Can I use the brake rotor from a gl1000 rear? They are diet comon around here so parts are easy to come by. I emailed Buchanan Spokes but haven't heard back yet.

The 75-77 GL rear rotor will definitely fit. The '78 and '79 SHOULD fit. The 1980 rotor is definitely different.

Ok rotor ordered now to deal with spokes. I have a spare rim in the garage and I will see if the rotor is the right diamiter for the brake mout I have now if not I will need to eather borrow a plasma cutter or get my self back on speaking terms with the oxi acc torch. (Needs new hoses and fresh tanks.)
