I thought this info was in the FAQ?
There are only two styles of carbs on stock 500/550 models: PD and an earlier Style body type.

The stamping numbers on them refer to the internal fuel metering set up.
For US models:
627b CB500
022a CB 550K 74 and 75
087a - CB 550K 76
069a - CB550F 75 through 77
PD 46a - CB550K 77 (PD style )
PD 46c - CB550 K (PD style meeting EPA import requirements)

Euro and export models can differ. One CB500 version had early style carb bodies with a set up of 649 for models using a small intake filter cover to go with it.  I have not personally seen these, just relaying forum post info from Europe and Canada.
