Source for Carb Float Valve and Float Gasket
« on: April 10, 2023, 01:54:43 PM »
Hello,

My new to me 75 CB550F has one or two carbs that are leaking through the overflow tubes.  Tapping the carbs has not solved the problem.  I'm going to remove the float bowls to check for debris in the float needle seats, gaskets hanging up the floats, etc.   Before I do that, I want to have the float valves and gaskets on hand.

Are there any sources of high quality generic parts that are less expensive than Honda OEM?   Is there a source of genuine Keihin parts with lower prices than Honda dealers?

Have any of you used viton-tipped aftermarket float needles?  Did they work well?

Thanks!

You can get a full set of carb O rings from Nurse Julie on here and as far as needle jets go you need to pay the cost of honda unless you find a keihin stockist, the pattern ones aint worth it
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

I'm not looking for needle jets.  I'm looking for what Honda refers to as the float valve, and I call the float needle.

Different names for the same parts...  Thanks, I'll get the original Honda/Keihin ones.

Aftermarket float valves can be different height from stock which leads to float valve shutting off fuel incorrectly and that leads to running issues because fuel level in the carbs is wrong.

All brass parts must be genuine Keihin or Jets R Us equivalent as all other pattern brass parts tend to have numerous issues and are incorrect.  Bowl gasket from Honda is not formed like the bowl, so that is a challenge for newbies. As long as thickness of bowl gasket is right on aftermarket part that is shaped like the bowl sealing groove then it works. I forget the thickness required. I just glue the Honda OEM gasket to the bowl to locate new gaskets
