Needle-clip position (stock engine)
« on: April 10, 2023, 06:39:22 PM »
Someone on this site had posted a spec sheet with honda cb's various carbs info (air/fuel screw turns, main jet size, needle clip position, etc.) It stated that 657a and 657b carbs should both start out with slide needles clip position at 4.i have always been told that, from the factory it was set at position 3. Anybody know the correct  stock position for both of those carbs?

Exhaust system and filter can change that.
My old K6 carbs were jetted stock
- Pilot 40
- Needle clip middle, 3
- Main jet 105.
This was with restrictive HM 341 4-4

Exactly same carbs with a better flowing 4-4 Yamiya No numbers
- Pilot 40
- Needle 1 step richer, 4 from top
- Main jet 115
Stock airbox with paper filter, now K&N inside box.

I tested the old stock jetting first.)

(Air screw 1 turn out +/- 1/8 is still valid.

I have also notified that a better flowing exhaust is more demanding.
The carb jetting flaws will make more harm.
Saw that on my K6 that ran rather well on dyno AFR wise with 4-4 Yamiya no numbers and Lotus Root 4-4.

Complete different with a better flowing 4-2-1. Still same pods. No intake limitation.
