Tucson's Traffic Watch
« on: April 15, 2023, 09:28:13 PM »
Update from local news channel...
https://www.kgun9.com/operation-safe-roads/tpd-seeing-complaints-about-speeding-and-unsafe-lane-changing-on-new-online-reporting-tool

100 reports in 2 weeks

Letters and few visits planned in response to those 100 entries...

All this in response, in part, to the 99 fatalities by car in Tucson last year. Enough to get federal funding help to address.

Just thought I would provide info as it comes out. Let's not let this one denigrate into the right or wrong of this tool and go off topic and shut down the thread.

Some folks forget when they are driving they are responsible for their lives and the people around their vehicles.

Driving home from work, I had a yahoo pull out in front of me. There was almost enough space for him to do that, but then he proceeded to lolly- gag at 25 mph in a 45 zone. When he pulled out I took my foot off the gas and coasted. Since he seemed to refuse to go the speed limit I was on his arse pretty quickly, I hit the brakes and waited for him to speed up. He never did, but finally saw I was behind him and took offense.  He started waving his cell phone like he was in full Karen mode and was going to call the cops. I laughed and signaled for him to pull over and to my surprise he did! When I got to his window I asked him very nicely "what the F is your problem then pointed out that he was the one that jumped out in front of me. Told him I gave him ample time to reach the speed limit and he was the problem. He apologized profusely  and I didn't even threaten him.

So the moral here is I'm glad they don't have a program here like in Tucson ...............because I would have been in DANGER of getting a letter! I don't know how I could live with myself if I did get a letter!

To add to my previous post. Let's say you do get one of these life altering letters, it will arrive about 2 or 3 weeks after the "crime". By then most people would be like WTF is this all about.

I still think this is a worthless program, but if the people of Tucson like it............well so be it.

Crazy thing is you can get charged with a crime if you committed one and get a ticket if the proof is sufficient.

So, that can lead to a discussion with an officer or possibly some legal ramifications using this tool.

Who knows what affect it is going to have with time or it works? Watching this with interest.

Pretty much my point. Some dipwit turns me in for something they caused and I  don't even have a right to face my accuser.  Sounds a tad dystopian to me.  " but it's for your protection, whispered the snake!"

Yeah, I hear ya jgger, I agree. It is a weird experiment. Democrat for major and lots of liberals in AZ big cities, not that being a democrat makes you automatically evil or stupid…
The Karen’s of the world should love this tool, let’s hope justice and sanity are applied in equal measure and being a frequent reporter with this tool would garner attention as to motives and intent of those reporting.

We all do stupid stuff sometimes.
Hopefully not criminal stuff that could cause major heartburn.

I wonder what is in the letters and what the talks they have result in.

I am watching this thing unfold, thought it weird and unusual and worth sharing.

I will try to not armchair quarterback and speculate about it…

One news station is reporting about it periodically.

It is interesting indeed. But sitting back and watching but not voicing your concerns is the same as approving of it. Not being a resident of Tucson I have no skin in the game at this point. I could  go on, but I think my position is evident.

Do keep us informed.

You may comment all you like, I don't know what to say in response. It is uncharted territory.

The ones who call for taillights or similar all the time we call "Karens"
Just calling one of those types a Karen to their face can escalate things pretty quickly.

I call in road rage but otherwise I don't tend to try to create waves.

A few times I have called Pima County Sheriff office to report something they are over 30inutes away from me... Even though during the day they have a station 1 mile away. Some retard criminal type was flying their drone at night and dropping into people's back yards and checking things out and possibly being a peeping tom. Not legal to fly them at night much less the sketchy #$%* of checking out people's property like that. It wasn't just a minute or two either as they were flying around for 5-10 minutes in a person's backyard before going to the next place up my street.

I don't live in Tucson city limits and my police are either Pima County Sheriff or if I drive a couple miles I'm in Marana police jurisdiction. Marana does not play around, 2-3 units roll on every traffic stop and ARs come out pretty easily for any threats.
MC cops have folding stock ARs on the backs of their bikes, big Kawasaki police bikes. Tucson has ARs on most of their bikes and they usually are on Honda ST1300 police models.
