Welding on a '77 CB750
« on: April 16, 2023, 11:11:46 AM »
I've got a '77 CB750 and it seems the side stand is not the original.  The tang that you hook your toe on to deploy it is under the foot peg.  The easiest fix is to weld a new tang on it that is reachable.  The bike has no electronics so I'm not anticipating any problems.  If anyone knows better than me (certainly not impossible) I would appreciate the info.

Disconnect the battery to protect the charging system.

Is the side stand mount centered between the shifter and the foot rest?

The side stand is located the same as your pic.  I've welded on the tang I fabbed up in 10 minutes, see pics
of before and after.  I can't believe something actually went quickly and smoothly on this bike.  I think it took some
5 months to swap the F\SS front for the stock K.  Mostly that was finding parts.   Even when I found them, such as
on ebay, what was delivered didn't much resemble the picture in the ad.  I still need a front fender with decent chrome
for a reasonable price.  The one I bought looked good in the pic but when it arrived the chrome was totally pitted.  I
would have complained but I needed the fender to ride so I ground away the chrome and painted it.  Still looking for
a chrome model.
