Air filter horns
« on: April 27, 2023, 06:21:39 PM »
I just spent a frustrating afternoon trying to install the top half of the filter box on a 1975 CB750. All new OEM rubber, both on the carbs to head and filter to carbs. For the life of me, I can’t get the filter box top to line up with the carbs. I’ve got the offset at the top of the horns. I’m out of ideas!! Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!!

I'm not at my shop so I can't take fresh pictures of my K5 for you but have a couple pictures of others that might help you.

At the 18:00 mark he has the seams on the tubes all pointing straight up to the air box.  Although this is for a K2, I followed his suggestions for my K4 and they all lined up to the back of my carbs.  I did use genuine Honda intake insulators for everything and double checked the orientation of insulators at the head before the carbs went on. Hope this helps.

I found that video and did exactly as he did, except the sealing part, and I’m using genuine Honda horns and boots. My carbs went back on fairly easy using a tie down strap to pull them in. Stu, I appreciate the pictures. It looks like the wider offset should be at the bottom. I’ll give that a shot this morning. This has been a surprise to me. I expected the carbs to be difficult but weren’t and did not expect trouble out of the air box. I’ve done this before, but it’s been a long time and I can’t remember squat anymore. Thanks for the help guys.

Are you using a line coat of red grease so they slide on the carbs easier??

Stu, I don’t have any problems getting the horns on the carbs. They’re just always at the wrong angle! Plus the bolt up tab is too far back from the frame tab. I have considered greasing them up, just out of frustration. Do you seal the horns to the cover? Thanks for all your help!!
