K8 Idle Air Adjust - Any Tips?
« on: April 22, 2023, 12:03:57 PM »
I think I need a small slotted screwdriver with EXACTLY the right length (about 3") for the idle air screws on #1 and #2.  #2 is particularly challenging to reach without burning my hands on the cylinder fins.  Plus, the screw is very small and recessed.  I'm probably just whining, but perhaps someone has a tip for me.

I made a little screwdriver for those! It was originally one of those give-away (by salesmen) screwdrivers with someone's company logo on it, now with the grip cut off at the end of the steel shaft - so I can't tell who it was? But, it fits those carbs perfectly. ;)

Hm.  My best tool for this is a small slot bit for a drill, and a short drill fixture meant to hold those little bits.  But the shaft is very small.  Difficult to turn.

And actually, perhaps the biggest problem is that the lower air box is in the way.  This is one of those rare times when I wish I had smaller hands.  Here is a question I unfortunately probably know the answer to:

Can I make this adjustment with the lower air box removed?  If I say "pretty please," then can I?

Yep, it is close quarters on the K7/8!
I had a short 'palm'-type screwdriver long ago that was perfect for this (with interchangeable tips), but it walked off one sunny day when we had a group "tuneup" session in my back yard. There were 2 K7/8 bikes here, and I haven't seen either of those guys since(!), nor the screwdriver. :(
