Exhaust Flanges & Ports
« on: April 19, 2023, 05:43:30 PM »
Can my '77 750 K use other types of flanges from earlier/later model years or am I stuck with the stock ones with the flared lip exhaust tips?
Thankful for everyone on this forum. Grateful to continue to learn so much.

The K7,K8 head is basically the same in the exhaust ports as the K4-k6 so yes you can put the earlier flanges in.

When I made a set of stainless headers for my CBR last century I found this the best way to make the flanges, no need for any loose metal parts anymore...

Can someone tell me what the OD is of the portion that is inserted into the flange (circled in red) for the earlier model K's?

Pull one of your copper rings out of the head and measure it.

That wouldn't correlate at all. The part I circled goes over the outside flange.

Well I went ahead and paid the $200 for a set of new K5 flanges and unless that gap is acceptable/normal, then the earlier flanges DO NOT work with the K7/K8 heads.......

And that gap is without the gasket in there..

Hopefully I can return them, but I doubt it since I opened one.
