Sealed Sync Screws

I am rebuilding the carbs on my 75 CB550F, and noticed that all the carb sync screws had a tiny bit of white glue at the lock-nut area.  Out of curiosity, were these sealed or glued on US model bikes?  Do we have the EPA to thank for this?

I carefully removed the nuts, and cleaned the screw threads with a small wire wheel o a Dremel tool.

My 76F has the same only yellow…

I'd have to look some of my 750's over again but I think they had a little dab of yellow on those as well as some other bolts as kind of an inspection marker. Might be similar to what you saw.

If it was an inspection marker, they sure used a lot.  Two of the screws on my bike had so much glue, that it was impossible to loosen the lock-nuts without clamping the adjusters in a soft jaw vise.

That’s the way they were on my 76F. A large enough tiny bit or little dab you couldn’t even put a wrench or socket on them. Like Expent wrote, the same yellow was on the triples,  swingarm, and other nuts too..

 My 76F had plastic caps on the carb screws. The caps could be removed, carbs adjusted and put back on if you wanted them there.

81 Passport has/had a soft steel/lead plug on one of the adjusters for its carb

My CB750 K6 carbs also had black plastic caps on air screws to show the position and limit the rotation. That's why those screws have splines.

I had forgot about them until I bought a complete carb set in parts where they were included.

After 1970, when we assembled these bikes from their crates we were required by Honda to apply the 'Yellow Peril' 3M glue to the "afixed fasteners" as proof we did it (sometimes with photographs, because one shop I worked at was often delinquent - that was Honda's response). So, this stuff would show up on things like the axle nuts and the carb-adjustment nuts (carb vacuum balance checks at 300 miles checkup, at Honda's expense), even the handlebar clamp bolts (ugly, often removed).

Photos of which fasteners that should have the yellow paint would be fine for stock restorers.
I can se residues here and there.
