CB550F Stock Muffler Replacement
« on: April 28, 2023, 03:27:42 PM »
I own a 1976 CB550F that is in mostly good original condition with the exception of the muffler. Trying to find a new one appears to be very difficult, best i could find is a EMGO 80-84034 that is listed as being able to fit.

Does anyone have experience with fitting the EMGO 80-84034 to a 550F SuperSport?

Did you need to modify for the axle nut?
Is there a better fitting original looking replacement that I haven't been able to find?
Is there a resource for a good used that is in good shape that doesn't require my refinancing my home?

I think the last two questions are unicorn questions

Hey Rick...I have a 550F and love the original exhaust.
FYI - the exhaust was not made by Honda, their vendor made it, worst part on the bike!  Honda did not expect us to be riding these bikes 45 yrs later!

My muffler has a hole the size of a dime near the end, I searched for a long time for one and finally found what I thought was one.  Turns out it was not for a 550 but for another bike. The part number is HM388, fairly certain it is for a 360T but is very similar in looks and size to the 550F muffler. With a minor modification to the mount [included] I think it could be fitted and would be much better than an Emgo. At this point, I don't see me using it.

Let me know if you have any interest and can send you pics, its in pretty good condition.

Welcome aboard the forum RICKCB550F

Are you only wanting to find a muffler?
Unfortunately there aren't direct replacement mufflers these days. And I don't have a 550 to verify if the Emgo fits.
How about a complete system as Delkevic and Hindle both still offer a good replacement whole systems in Stainless Steel and a couple different style muffler ends. They aren't stock looking unfortunately but they do fit and sound good.

Go to the new members section and introduce yourself and your bike. Pictures are always welcome to show off your bike. Which color is your bike?

Kind of like the cb400-4 the 550F has some sexy looking header pipes also and can understand if you wanted to keep those and not install a whole new exhaust. Watching this with interest as I have a 550F with a crappy looking muffler on the end.

I can find a stock OEM muffler for most bikes by looking on Ebay under different search words like: 'motorcycle muffler preowned' etc. I sometimes put the info that's been stamped into the case of a stock muffler(if I know it)like Sankei,Krizman, etc. or numbers. This takes lots of 'screen time' hunting but will yield results.  ;)

Busso make one, but it looks shorter than the original.

Thats a fail in my book.  Why would they make it diff than the original that most guys would want?
