Topic: CB500 Starter clutch repair

Finally getting round to replacing broken spring in my starter clutch... It first started to slip 'bout 40 years ago so I mostly used kick starter ..Bike was in storage for many years and now I'm getting the original 500 motor back into shape.
Question is how best to undo the three screws...I've tried manual impact hammer... The manual just says unscrew them and there's no detail on the Springs, Rollers and "cap start roller"  all of which I purchased about 20 years ago

Any suggestions appreciated....thanx

You dont need to undo the screws to replace rollers, caps and springs. Only if you are replacing the housing

Oh !  Now thats good news... so really I only need to "entice" the spring and plunger thing (cap start roller in my bunch of spares?)....
is that right ?

Spring goes into hole, then fit cap to spring and compress with roller, just clean all gunge(technical term) out before assembling.

Thanks Bryanj..  Gunge is popular tech term here too... having a bit of hassle getting stuck bits out....was surprised to find a pin that goes inside spring as well !?

That “grunge” must be proper English.
Em American’s must be mispronouncing that too.
We did spell it gunk on the can too 🤪

Nah, Gunk was a good product that got rid of gunge but has been watered down by all the nanny rules to stop us hurting ourselves!

Put a heat gun to it to melt the grunge to get them out. Or a hot bath of Seafoam to melt the grunge.
