New wheel bearings
« on: May 10, 2023, 06:19:05 AM »
Thought I’d share my experience with changing out all the bearings on the front end of my k5 750, especially the front wheel. I ran across a you tube video by the guy that runs common motor.com where he was changing the bearings in both wheels on a 350. The front hub looks exactly like the 750 hub. Anyway, he heated the front hub with a heat gun for ten minutes. The bearing practically fell out. Turned it over and did the same thing. Very light taping with punch and hammer and they were out. Then he heated the hub up again for ten minutes. The bearings had been in a freezer for a while. One bearing had to be barely tapped in and the other side the bearing just slipped in, no tapping. I did the exact thing with heating for ten minutes with a heat gun and the bearings popped out super easy. The new bearings just fell straight in, seated without any tapping. Easiest bearing swap I’ve ever had. I loved not beating on them!!! I froze the races for the new steering head bearings, same deal. Very light tapping seated both. Froze the steering stem and the bearing seated with very light tapping. Easy leash.
