350F starter button replacement
« on: May 06, 2023, 10:28:42 AM »
Hi
This is probably a real rookie question so please feel free to groan...
I have a '73 350F and somehow the starter button broke off over the winter. I got a replacement button, took the housing apart, but can't for the life of me figure out how to get the button in. It's way too long to slot in the gap between the front of the housing and the connection point. It doesn't look like that piece where the wire is attached comes out but it's pretty crusty so maybe I'm missing something. Also, wasn't there supposed to be a spring? What I pulled out of there seemed to just be the disintegrated plastic button parts. I thought this would be an easy little project har har har...

The piece where the wire is attached is in a slot. You could pull it up and out if you want to clean it. There is supposed to be a spring that slides over the contact thing you have in your hand. There is a clip like thing that goes between the wire contact and the button and gets screwed down.

Ok, thanks Mark. It seemed like that piece must come out but I didn't want to try too hard if it didn't. Now I know it does. Really appreciated the help!
