Ignatech on a CB750
« on: May 12, 2023, 03:32:53 PM »
Does anyone know how to mount the timing disk at the end of the crank? The disk that came with the ignition has a large center hole. It appears that a proper shouldered bolt would be shorter than the OEM unit and would allow for a shallow cover. Apparently I can have Ignitech send me the proper disk/center hole, but looking for advice about a shorter bolt.

Do you have a pic of the parts and crank end? I'm about to install on both a CB250K twin road racer and a CB500 raod racer . The 500 should be very similar to your 750. I have three different timing disc so can choose which one fits best. I think the 500 came with a small one and a dedicated trigger mount plate, but on the 250 I need to fab the mount plate, but its pretty simple.

Yes, they sent me the small disk which is likely of no use. My unit is the TCIP4 which I wish to mount to a standard crank end.  I now have a Dyna S on the bike land the Ignitech intructions say I could choose to use that pickup! They also sent me a rotor equal to the Honda unit but with a huge center-hole.

My goal is to have a rev-limiter and and ignition retard when in top-gear at 7000+ rpms. It appears that the Ignitech unit would eliminate the wasted-spark.  Wiring is 'new to me' but I need to learn to achieve my goal. Currently running total loss with a 12v lithium battery. Maybe I should have a seperate battery for this unit. My tach is self-powered.

I am travelling but will get a few pics to email next week. My email is: dweinhold@gmail.com

Did you ever get this unit installed? I’m intrigued about this system but so little info on how it goes on our bikes.

The total USD price of the unit is not small but it does look like a really good unit. But the price is getting close to just using a MicroSquirt and use it just for ignition ?? Of course with the MicroSquirt we need to setup a crank trigger of our own. I already bought one too which could help me decide there :-).

There is another alternative too...well maybe more than one but here is one.

The small EFI ECO will do all the ignition stuff we could ever want, finding a place to mount them might be tougher maybe.

Actually I made an error, I was comparing the price for another system that Mreich said he had bought for his CBr and hoped to survive long enough to install, that system was more in the $400+ range. The Ignatech is a lot more affordable but still has a lot of great features.

..........wiring is new to me..........Well not any more! I took the Ignitech unit to a brandname dealership and was assured they could do the installation. It was installed within a week........but it was wired WRONG so when I turned the ignition on the coils and the pickups were toast :o :o :o

So now I am embarking on doing it myself.........unfortunately time was against me so I used another Dyna unit to get to Bonneville in late August. Now I am traveling but have learned enough to attempt the job when I return to Pocatello in April. After dismantaling the errant tech's wiring, it no long looks so daunting.

To use the Ignitech plate and pickups, you will have to have a rotor made to replace the SOHC unit. My first attempt was close but will also have to wait until April for laith work.

Dennis, I recently read an article in an old Hot Rod magazine that dispelled the notion of retarding the timing at the end of the dragstrip. Testing showed that the optimum WFO timing stayed the same, regardless of RPM/load.

Cheers Dennis, sorry about your luck with the wiring, interested to see how the ignitech goes together for you. I have a lathe, it looks like some kind of pickup wheel needs to be mounted.

As for the micro squirt option… it’s interesting but for the money I’d rather have the Sache kit that’s “turn key”
