Brake bleeding
« on: May 13, 2023, 06:47:12 AM »
Posted previously on Dot 5 conversion and the multiple problems I had.  Went back to Dot 3 with complete tear down and part replacement.  Had the usual problem with pressure buildup.  After 20 minutes and a hand cramp I found a video on the internet which was genius in my opinion.  Bars full left, reservoir full, and bleeder closed.  He starts tapping the end of the brake lever.  And I mean just tapping.  Within minutes, in my case about 5, bubbles start coming up.  You continue to tap until no more.  Total time in my case was 15 minutes. Topped off MC and let sit overnight and still no more bubbles.

I maybe the only one who never heard of this but thought I would pass it on.

Yes, that's one good way to do it. Not that hard

I use a 60cc horse syringe and fill it from the bleeder valve. It pushes all the air up and out of master cylinder. Sometimes it's good to go and other times I'll have to bleed it once or twice at the master cylinder banjo bolt to get a firm lever.

Reverse bleeding is the way I do it too, after trying other options. Works great.

I have done mine a couple times, the second today. Just added fluid and slowly activated the lever, 15-20 minutes later all the air had worked its own way out of the two little ports inside the master reservoir.

I reverse bled the brakes and I’m still getting a spongy lever that comes in too far.
So I bled the brakes more and it’s still the same.

How do you bleed at the master cylinder banjo bolt?
Aren’t the crush washers one use?
Please advise.

The crush washers will be fine to reuse.

Partially wrap a rag around the banjo bolt, put the wrench on and finish wrapping up the rag. Pump up the lever and hold it, now loosen the bolt and retighten quickly. If there's trapped air you'll hear it. Let go of the lever and try it. You might have to do it again. When done clean up any brake fluid.

So how is bleeding air done at the bolt at the MC?

Just like if you do it on a brake blender,  just that the fluid comes out by the treads and sealing washers which is why you use rags to catch it.
Don't release the lever until you tighten the bolt just like the bleeder screw.

Be sure to have all painted parts covered with a plastic sheet.
Also, have a spray bottle of water to wash off the brake fluid from the parts the brake fluid gets on.
