Aftermarket Tappet Caps
« on: May 19, 2023, 01:20:52 PM »
Hello

The tappet caps on my 75, CB550F are a bit chewed-up and the aluminum is stained.  I want to replace them all.  The last time I purchased aftermarket tappet caps for a Honda I was disappointed.   The caps did not quite look like the OEM caps.

Is there a source of aftermarket caps that look like the OEM caps?

Nope, but if you can accept dull not shiney laquered Honda C90 are the same size but not polished
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

to avoid burring your new caps get a six sided 17mm socket and grind its opening flat on a belt sander or linisher to remove the lead in ramps like the one on the left, youll get a better bite on the thin hex aswell, dont use a socket like the one on the right with those stupid valleys between the flats, just a plain jane six sider!
