Camshaft holder removal question
« on: May 22, 2023, 07:23:45 AM »
Hi all
So I picked up a 99 cb750 to keep my restored 79 cb650 company

Hoping you experts on here can give me the correct advice

Problem:in the course of changing the valve cover seal tightening the valve cover bolts I overtightened one and broke one off

I have the clymer service manual for it and it gives instructions how to remove the cam shaft including chain and holders.  It’s a more detailed process.

All I want to do is remove the front right exhaust cam shaft holder so I can have a machine shop remove the broken bolt for me

So question: Can I simply remove the chain guide, oil line and the camshaft holder
Or do I need to rotate the motor top dead center like is in the camshaft service process

Any help on this is greatly appreciated.  I’m losing sleep over it. Lol

Thx
Scotia

Rotate it to a point where those valves are closed so no tension on the bolt the remove that holder carefully DO NOT  then rotate the engine.
By the way the most common reason for the rocker gasket to leak was the rubbers on the retaining bolts, which are not cheap

Thanks for response Bryan.  I’m taking it to Honda dealer on Thursday.  I’m not taking any chances. It’s too nice a bike.  I think it’s above my skill set. Lol
