Best way to remove front wheel
« on: May 27, 2023, 05:49:32 PM »

I will need to remove the front wheel and fix a bolt and put right back on.
 I have a center stand.
I don’t have a lift or garage.
I will have one friend to help.
I was picturing putting in the center stand and having weight added to rear to lift the front higher.

Any help will be appreciated.

Centerstand and a small floor jack undet the front of the motor to lift the front tire off the ground.

And a chock in front of the rear tire so it doesn't roll forward.

Throw a strap over a roof rafter and hang the front end by it. On center stand, slightly raise the front end by the strap. Use a ratchet strap and you can do it all by your lonesome.

I like CalJ's ratchet strap method, but couldn't you just put the bike up on the center stand and sit your friend on the passenger portion of the seat to weigh the bike onto the back tire, then place something under the engine to support the bike with the front wheel off the ground? A stack of books or magazines, scrap wood, a paint can, bowling ball, or whatever?

Yes you can, and don't forget to remove the speedo cable from the front wheel hub.  As me how I know.

I put the bike on the centerstand and then use the tire jack from my car to lift the front enough to get the wheel off.
You only go around once in life so it might as well be on a motorcycle.

If like the 750's be warned that the screw that holds that cable in at the wheel is made of butter. Make sure you have a good fitting screwdriver so you don't round it out !!

All done.
Used my dad to sit in the rear seat while removed.

This is one good time to have a luggage rack on the bike LOL. I just put bike on center stand, put about 100lbs worth of lead ingots on the luggage rack and I was good to go :-).

I found on the road ratchet strap from a semi truck and permanently installed it under the barn as motorcycle lift.

Easiest was is using a paddock stand that has a pin that goes into the hole at the bottom of the steering stem. The stands come with a few pins for different bikes. With this configuration you can service the wheel/brakes/forks on a steady platform.
All you gotta do is do what you gotta do.

But not the steering head bearings...
