Quick Question: F2 Copper Washers
« on: June 01, 2023, 05:41:12 PM »
I know the acorn nuts have the copper washers on them just wanted to check if it's necessary to replace those each time you fasten/unfasten or if they can be reused if they appear in good shape?

I've never had any troubles with re-using them. If they have raised edges around where the nut previously pressed on them, just file them flat again. They will raise those edges again next time. too. They need to distort under toque to form the needed seal underneath them so oil doesn't weep down those particular studs.

We used to anneal copper head gaskets by coating them with acetylene smoke, then burning it off so we could see where we got it hot. A washer would be a lot easier.
