CB750F brake line + clip-ons Update: clutch cable help
« on: June 14, 2023, 07:22:25 AM »
Howdy partners.

Another day, another obstacle. I have my clip-ons clipped on and all the controls connected etc. Unfortunately, the short line of hose that runs from the master cylinder into the splitter is now slightly too long, and the banjo connectors are all at funny angles for the fairly stiff brake line. I don't want to put a kink in it.

It doesn't really matter if I run the brake line inside or outside the headlight bracket - it's too high to run them over top, and too low to run them underneath.

I'm pretty sure it's a 9" line. I think what I need are some 90 degree banjo connectors and maybe a shorter line.

I have a few questions:

- This is the OEM master cylinder for the 1977 CB750 Super Sport. Do I need the 10mm banjos? If I buy an aftermarket set that claims to be 10mm, will it work?
- After I replace this line, will I have to bleed and refill the whole system?
- Can I simply shorten my existing line by taking it off the collar it's house in, trimming it, and putting it back in?
- Does the banjo connector on the splitter HAVE to be nestled between those two notches? Would help if I could rotate it 20 degrees counter clockwise.
- Am I better off skipping the splitter and finding a setup that directly feeds the dual front lines?

UPDATE:

My clutch cable is too long, and it's a shorty. It's 48 3/4", are there any shorter cables compatible with my bike? Cheers. All I need is a few inches, according to my wife anyway

10mm with the correct thread- yes
Of course you will need to bleed the new lines
if it is a crimped on fitting you can't re-use it, if it's a screw on- yes
the notches are only to locate the stock fitting and keep it from turning
if you skip the splitter you need a brake light switch at the M/C
No matter how many times you paint over a shadow, it's still there.

Absolutely brilliant, thank you so much. What would I do without this place?

Again, absolutely brilliant. They're crimped. Thanks for the info on the notches. I'm going to try rotating the fitting and seeing if that helps with the routing, if not I'll get one of those sets listed above.
