Upper Brake Hose Length - 75 CB550F
« on: June 12, 2023, 01:31:09 PM »
Hello,

The handlebars on my CB550F are replicas of the originals.  The upper brake hose is routed properly, but it is too long.  I ordered a hose from a supplier that is supposed to be the correct length for a 550F.  It turned out the new hose is the same length as the old one: 13.5" to the ends of the banjo fittings.  I took some measurements, and it looks like my bike needs a hose that is 11" long to the ends of the banjo fittings.

Does anyone know what is the length of the OEM hose on a 75 CB550F?

Thanks

I measured 13 inches on my  '75 550F...it's on the bike so I'm sure I could have been off by 1/2 inch..

depends which "original" bars you have. 11" is what i had with original, european style bars. with the higher bars that came original in the US, it makes sense that the hose would be a bit longer.
so the real question is: which bars do you have?

C317414,
Is it a braided line or original rubber line you have that is 13.5"?

Apex is good at fabbing SS Teflon lines to order and does hoses for our bikes. Raymond does good work. He likely can do rubber lines as well or the newer SS Teflon lines with the original looking rubber outer sheath.

Thanks for the replies.  Here are some answers:

When I bought my CB550F, it had Norman Hyde M-bars.  These were very low, and the upper brake hose had a number of bends in it.  I replaced the bars with the replicas that 4 into 1 sells:
https://4into1.com/chrome-handlebars-53100-390-000-honda-cb550f-super-sport-1975-1976

4 into 1 claims these bars replace Honda p/n 53100-390-000, and that's the correct part number for the OEM handlebar on a US model, 1975 CB550F.   When I replaced the bars I still had a number of bends in the brake line.  From what I can tell, the brake line appears to be original, and it measures approximately 13.5 inches overall.

I am going to replace the line with a shorter one, but I was curious about the length of the OEM line vs. the OEM bars.

The line on my 550F seems to be 12" but I dont know for sure if it is original [doubtful]

If your line is too long, order a shorter one from Apex and either return the long one or sell it.
