Need help identifying Honda wrench
« on: June 05, 2023, 11:21:56 AM »
Recently picked up the attached Honda wrench; thought it looked interesting and it was cheap enough. Having a heckuva time identifying it; anyone have any info on it?

I would guess it's for a small displacement Honda, probably '70's vintage?
Maybe a Trail 90 or a maybe a Passport scooter.
I suspect the hole in the middle is for using with the screw driver bit.

I tend to agree about the screwdriver slot; nothing obvious turned up in the parts to toolkits (as seen in their fiches) for those bikes. Still looking.

I tend to agree with your spoke wrench assessment; I’ll know for sure when it gets here in a couple of days. I’d never seen one like this before either, I just happened across it On Ye Olde Auctione Site and figured what the heck. I did find a second image of one, but no additional information.

Now that I have it in my grubby hands, I can tell you (having tried it on a 350f) that the 10mm fits with basically zero slop and the cut-out we thought was a spoke wrench fits the 350f spokes, but super loose.

Does the adjuster stud on the end of rocker arms on some bikes a square cross section…looks like it would be good for that purpose with its location. What does it measure to be?

It looks like it came from a dirt or dual purpose bike.

Here's a wrench from one the XR250s I used to own:

You're probably right. i should have been thinking later, like the '80's.

Between my wife and I, we've owned four XR250s, ranging from 1988 to 1997.  My wrench could have come in any one of them.

Measures ~6.20mm.

A CB550(can't remember the year)had that same, exact wrench in it's tool kit;it looked in the same condition as all the other tools in there and it may have come with the kit from the factory.
I sold the tool kit.
I liked that factory multi-wrench so much that I bought another one from one of my friends in MI. who was a 'parts breaker'/parted-out used bikes. I still have it.
75' CB400F/'bunch o' parts' & 81' CB125S modded to a 'CB200S'
I love the small ones too !

Here's a wrench from one the XR250s I used to own:

Hey, looks like we have a winner. Honda “Eye Wrench”, part number 89225-KF0-000 (CMSNL link w/photo, Partzilla link with no photo).

Came with XR-class machines from about ‘83 to ‘04 or so. Unlike your pics tho, neither mine or the CMSNL photo have a deep socket like yours. If you ever get a hankering to unload it, let me know. :)

I poked around in some parts fiches and didn’t see a wrench which matches for any of the 550’s *shrug*.

So, just under 1/4"

Yep; ‘zat help at all?

Thanks for the assist on this, y’all.

Disliking unanswered questions I did some digging and, for anyone interested, here’s what I found. The deep socket variation predates mine:

BikeWrench
1980 XR25022mm deep socket - 89225-429-770
1980 XR50022mm deep socket - 89225-429-770
1981 XR200R24mm deep socket - 89225-MA0-000
1981 XR250R24mm deep socket - 89225-MA0-000
1981 XR500R24mm deep socket - 89225-MA0-000
1982 XR200R24mm deep socket - 89225-MA0-770
1982 XR250R24mm deep socket - 89225-MA0-770
1982 XR500R24mm deep socket - 89225-MA0-770
1983 XR200R24mm deep socket - 89225-MA0-770

Anything later uses a wrench like mine; that’s all the XRxxxR bikes through 2004. Additionally, while I haven’t been able to confirm the spoke wrench size for these bikes, the motion pro spoke wrench for a ‘96 XR400R is listed as 6.0mm/6.3mm, which is at least in the ballpark for that square cutout.

I've had many CB550's [and a CB500] but have never seen that wrench. I would bet some 550 owner put it in the tool for it's many uses just like you have. I would like to have a few!
