1977 CB750F Supersport Rack options
« on: June 16, 2023, 06:42:13 AM »
Hey, all! I'm a brand new member but I am quite sure I'll be posting a decent amount! I am picking up a 1977 CB750F Supersport today (will post pics and story about it later, it's quite cathartic) and I'm trying to figure out some luggage and storage options for it. I'm leery of the "universal" options that I've seen, and to maintain the aesthetic of the bike I want to stay OEM and minimal. I would love hard side cases but they seem to be a bit of a unicorn, so right now I'm just looking for a small rack that will allow me to mount a removable topbox for some light touring. Cheap is also a benefit for the time being while I search or the unicorn hard saddles.
I have found this unit on eBay but there isn't a year listed and I really can't find much info on aftermarket parts:

Can anyone confirm the fit of this, or help direct me to where to find what I'm looking for? I've been scouring the internet but I think the community here will be the life raft I need!

Not sure how that is intended to work without more parts that are not included ?? The one I just took off my K2 mounts up like this one.

Welcome aboard Jimmy
Unfortunately you will need the specific rack for the Supersport, as the whole seat and tail flips up to open, thus you will need the rack that flips up first then you open the seat after the rack is swung up. There was one made to do that specifically for the Supersport from 75-78.

Ahh the pictured one makes more sense then :-). The stuff I have read about the F models was all engine and carb related.

Now that I'm off work and not reading as fast, I looked at the link to that rack again and I think it does swing up to use on the F model, though all the parts my not be included to fasten it to the bike. I never had a F model but sold a couple of the racks for them back in 76/77 but there's a bit of fog between now and then as to what all came with the rack. That one looks like it also has the capability to add a sliding backrest into the pipes towards the front.

Thanks, I'm excited to be aboard!
Yeah I've seen that specific rack, the one that has a backrest and the swing mechanism to get out of the way of the seat, but I swear I've seen a smaller one, though maybe that was for a different year or just the K model too.

The rack I found DOES look like it is designed to swing out of the way with those u-bent pieces, but yeah I think it's definitely missing some other hardware to mount it. I am thinking I could fabricate something, but I wish there was a way of seeing a complete unit to know exactly how it works! I'm scouring the 'net to try and find an old dealer book with accessories or something, but I think my best bet is to keep hoping to find someone who knows the bike and rack intimately!

I modified a K unit to tip back, I don't really remember how it worked because I sold the bike to buy my sandcast's 4-4 exhaust.
