Electrics - "Only the beginning"
« on: April 12, 2023, 04:24:26 PM »
1976 Honda 550F, Sapphire Blue, all stock.  My son and I rebuilt/restored the 1st 550F 20 years ago and the last one I did was in 2016.  I am old and I forget stuff.  The previous owner dismantled most of the bike and I just finished connecting all wires.  To my amazement, headlight works, turn signals work, brake lt works, horn works weak.  I hit the starter and only hear a click coming from electrical panel on left side of bike. the 4 fuses are good. What would you do next? thanks for any help.

Both are symptoms of a weak battery. Check the battery voltage directly at the battery terminals with the horn and again with the starter. If the voltage drops a bunch, try charging the battery.
Don't fix it if it ain't broke!

I have a 1976 Honda 550F all stock.  I think the previous owner experimented with wires at the solenoid.  The positive wire from battery is on the same terminal as the wires that go to starter, start button etc. The other terminal post has nothing connected and I cannot find any other loose wires.  I cant tell by looking at wiring diagram what should be connected where.  Does anybody have photos of what this should look like?

1976 550F all stock. I like to work on this bike but very frustrated with wiring.  As first reported, I could get lights horn etc working but only click at solenoid.  Now after checking all wiring I get NOTHING.  I did extensive look at all wiring to make sure everything was connected right.  I checked continuity from yellow/green wire from start button to solenoid and it is good.  I verified start button wires are correctly connected.  I checked all plug in connectors for R/R etc.  I have one solo green wire coming from rear of bike from harness but dont have another green wire to match it.  This is the only wire in question.  new Battery shows 12.88v.  I have been through 4 of these bikes over the years but this one is stumping me.  I would appreciate any help.

I seem to recall from reading here that the solo green wire by the turn signal flasher was left there in case somebody wanted/needed to use a 3 wire flasher ??

The second big post goes to the starter motor. No wire would explain the click but no start.
