Battery for kickstart only
« on: June 11, 2023, 10:36:30 PM »
So, does anyone have any idea what the smallest battery that can be run for kick only ?
Both elec spec and physical size.
In my recent post in ' what did you do to your bike today ' there's pics of the 750 dirtbike I'm slowly building, I want it as simple as possible and also want to hid as much of the elects as possible so I'm wondering if I can reconfigure the battery/elecs box to push everything a couple of inches further into the frame. Maybe even swap them round so the messy stuff is inside and the battery is exposed but still within the frame.

I've used a 3 A/hr lead acid, then a small LiFe battery, and now I'm using a Shorai that's the same size as the 3 A/hr lead acid, but one third the weight and still has the guts to spin the electric starter. ;D

Cycle X ha a kit to convert to battery less. That was a few years ago, so I don't know if they still offer it.
No matter how fast or how far I rode, I couldn't leave her memory behind.

That's a tiny lil battery. Do you remember which size Shorai that is? I was looking at some online.

The small Shorai (LFX14A2-BS12) is a size "2", and the larger one is size "5". The "A" refers to the location of the terminals, where the positive terminal is on the left. An "L" in the model number has the positive terminal on the right.
The larger battery has the same capacity as the small one, and just has a larger case to fit into a stock battery box.

after talking to my tame bike auto elec i ordered a 5ah lead acid on the weekend so when that arrives along with my new welding gear i can start 'redesigning' tye battery box and stuff.

after uncle terry kindly lent me his impact gun yesterday i had the alternator rotor off, starter gear off and rotor back on in less than a minute. thanks uncle Tez
