Busso pipes
« on: June 19, 2023, 04:01:49 AM »
Has anyone coated the inside of their new Busso pipes with vhf high heat spray paint? I have always done this to every new set of pipes to stop any turning colors from heat. Has always worked so far. Just curious!! Thanks!!!

Not yet as I just ordered and haven't received them.
I plan to use the Eastwood ceramic exhaust system with the long spray tube.

I've done 3 sets of Yamiya pipes with that Eastwood spray. I still own two of them. I tape the ends and drain holes so as I roll and rotate them the paint doesn't get all over. I do get some liquid paint pooling up which allows good coverage.
I let them sit for a while and then bake them with a heat gun blowing in either end.

Coated two sets and no issues except I made sure to tape the openings as the coating will run on you.

How many cans did you use for 2 sets? Did you do the cleaner degreaser first?

Hi,

Used two but probably overkill.  Put on two coats.  However one can did one coat.  Reasoning was that I
had gone through 3 sets of pipes in the past where they rusted near the resonators.  I contributed to the problem by doing short rides so condensation built up without properly drying out.

Make sure you tape the drain holes.  A big mess otherwise.  Also, the stuff is thin in consistency, so it can run on you.

Good luck and thanks for your previous responses.

I also coated a set of CMSNL 341's that I bought a year and half ago. It's difficult to know if you get coverage in 341's. I let the coating pool up a little and rotated them like crazy.  When I get the Busso no no's I plan to coat them and offer the 341's for sale.
The first time, I did look in the end and paint my tennis shoes with what ran out the other end. L0L!

Does this inside coating spray-on with a type of silver or clear color ?

It is a dull silver. I did my 40 chevy cast iron manifolds in the 70's with a similar Eastwood product and it lasted until recently. They aren't scaly but are turning brown rather than gray. This 18" spray hose is a hoot to use, since I bought the can of solvent cleaner I can clean the hose and nozzle and re-use it too.
