I've still not tracked down the write up that is prommised. Although talking to various people arround the bike shows the verdict still seems to be split, some say yes and some no. Personally I like to think it realy is the bike and reputedly Tommy Robb has agreed. Team Hansen also seem to autheticate it as they signed the fairing.

So I think the answer is that even if it isn't THE bike then it is still as close as you will ever see.

Anyone out there have any more info?

Mark,

If the bike is a CR and not a CB750R it should be no problem identifieing it as the frame is a dead give away.
The only problem then is which of the four frames is it.
The artical has already said that two of them got shipped to France for endurence racing.
The frames would no doubt have numbers, but would the riders remember what number frame they rode ?

I seem to remember, back then any member of the public could claim the winning bike if they had enough money, it was one of the rules of the meeting. Bikes did'nt disappear they got bought by wealthy collectors.
The big factories had their own people ready to buy their own bikes back before anyone else got to them.

It would be nice for the reserchers if it did turn out to be the Mann bike, personaly I would plump for it being one of the endurance bikes.

I never checked to see if it had a frame number - it has no engine number but has got the raised slab where you would see it stamped. Like I say Bob Hansen and another two team members did sign it so I guess they like it. I'll see if it turns up at Beaulieu again next summer.

Thanks for the great post!
Who doesn't love a good mystery?
This reminds me of the famoous story of the
fewllow who rescued a beat old Brough from
the breakers for a few pounds, only to discover it originally belonged
to Lawrence of Arabia!
Bikes parked out front mean good chicken-fried steak inside.

Really great post !!
Wondering what the specific differences are relative to the Daytona winning motor--weight?--compression, carb type-etc.
