Yes, he is a true craftsman. Went to a NAPA shop when I lived in Columbus Ohio area to have a driveshaft joints replaced and check the balance of the shaft, 2 piece driveshaft. The machine shop guy let me watch him work and it was amazing how clean he could stay doing the work as well as how skilled he was changing the U joints. I had tried changing the one Joint and had dropped and lost a needle bearing. So, went to Napa for replacement Joint and had them change it out for me.
Skilled guys who knows the tricks and have the experience are great to watch, if they will let you watch.
Having the steel Mandrels would be one of the challenges for straightening any tubing and then it is going to be a time intensive task. Often that drives the repair cost high, so if there are replacements available you quickly surpass that cost from most craftsmen in larger cities or where cost of living is higher.
