Rubber hose that goes between genuine mufflers
« on: July 03, 2023, 12:30:40 PM »
G'day there

I was looking at fitting some genuine mufflers that I have laying around to my CB750 1972 model.

The short rubber connector that goes between the mufflers is in pretty poor shape.

To buy a replacement is only $21 Aussie, but the shipping is $78 Aussie bring the total to pretty much $100 for 2 small bits of rubber & 2 hose clamps.

Do you think I can just use any old piece of rubber hose until I have a big enough parts order to make me feel better about the cost of shipping?

Thanks
Scott

If you have access to a small piece of silicone hose it would hold up to the heat better

I use std oil/water hose for cars etc. 1/2" inner what I had home.
Cut correct lenght, cut it open and adjust it to cover the half of the spigot between welds.

2 halves cover the spigots on pipes. There is a weld that block.

Strap together with a black strap.

I have new stock rubber with clamps that are a pain to mount. I prefer my work around that goes on when pipes are in place and tightened.
New strap when taking off-on again.

See below how two halves of the hose are fitted with a black nylon strap.

You will generally find that even after a long run that the ends of the pipes are not very hot even to a bare hand, that is why they tend to rot at the ends if you do short journeys as they do not hot enough to get rid of the acidic vapour that forms there.
