Vin stamp
« on: July 12, 2023, 01:42:53 PM »
hi at all, I have 2 questions if someone can help me
My 750 k0 has vin stamp on the left side of the neck with aluminum vin plate on the right, and this seems to me is a prerogative of US market bike. But the bike have German type winker, am I correct that German type bikes needs to have vin stamp on the right side?
Also another question, my frame have stopper for rear brake pedal and helmet holder on the rear, so it seems not to be a K0 frame but it have vin stamp with genuine honda font  and seems not to be tampered. So I’m wondering, was it possible that frame was changed at a time and a Honda dealer received a frame with vin just stamped on, or maybe punched the frame number at the place?

Honda frames as spare part were delivered with no number stamped in at all and had to be stamped by the dealer, also i doubt that the position of stamping changed by country

Vin was stamped on left side for all markets, usa bikes have tag on right side "THIS VEHICLE CONFORMS TO ALL APPLICABLE US FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARDS IN EFFECT ON THE DATE OF MANUFACTURE SHOWN ABOVE.
Helmet hooks and brake stop was added in 1972.
Post a photo, I can tell you what year.

Is this a K0 thing only?

My 3 CB750 have the number stamped in frame on right side, ca 2 o'clock. 12 is forward.

2 K2 with K2 VINs built 1975 for Swedish market.
1 K6 1976 for same market.

Upon this an alu plate on right side too with number stamped.

Here a K2 1975 frame waiting to be dressed. Numbers visible.

This is what I was saying, your is a Euro market model from origin I suppose, in fact you have vin stamp on the right and the different metal plate right down on the frame.
Does anyone here with a Euro K0 can show the vin stamp positioning?

I have an unstamped US K2 replacement frame. If a dealer had genuine Honda number stamps it would be the first I've heard of it and I've been searching for a long time.

The parts fiche/list shows the frame numbers, regions, and locations of vin plates for the different years.

It could be a K0 neck was welded to a later frame.  All kinds of weird stuff happened in the 1980s when these were just old bikes and not collectible or valuable.  It wouldn't have to be nefarious.  The bike could have been wrecked and a later frame was available or both bikes could have been wrecked and used to build 1 good one.  The shot glass style turn signals are readily available.  They could have been added for looks or some other reason at any time.  What is not available is the round red and amber tail light.

It seems to be not possible that neck was welded to the frame. Yes it have the “shot glass” winker and the rear round red and amber light

If you blow that pic up, vin tag is on the left of the neck.

On the UK models, we didn't get VIN tags until the K6 in 1976, all VIN stamps are on the left side of the head stock.
Trust me I'm a Nurse, I promise it won't hurt....much

I considered having a small set made with just the numbers that I need. It might come under that price.

I wonder if the punches are new too.

Yahoo in Japan..seller claimed he found them at a fleamarket..Hmm I dont think so ... yea modern replacements for Honda ones, which as far as I know were never issued to dealers like BryanJ  states.  I have also seen another set on there with less letters and also ones for Kawasakis
Not sure how true it is but someone told me that a replacement frame was stamped by the dealer on the opposite side to normal to indicate it was a replacement to original.
