Here is Patrick Swayze and his wife Lisa on his CB750 in 1979. Surely a man with good taste!

Looks like a normal one of us guys from 'back in the day' loaded up for a camping trip. Those sissy bars were great for that and yes I had one. Had a special bag made for it also with a big pouch for just putting stuff in on daily rides.

I had one too on my K0. Used it for two US coast to coast road trips. Worked well.
I wonder who the pillion is in the photo?

I also had a sissy bar on my new K7. Took some nice trips around lake MI and and other states with friends. Loved to pack that sissy bar full with tent, sleeping bag, food and then a big pillow to lean back on. It was like riding in a caddy...LOL

Ladies always felt safer also with a sissy bar or smaller type of backrest so they would alleviate the fear of sliding off the back.

I was just having that conversation with a friend's daughter yesterday afternoon. She has riden behind guys she went out with and hated the bikes without a sissy bar or trunk because of the antics of twisting the throttle at most inopportune times.....

My wife would sandwich herself between me and the sissy bar and sleep on long rides. We came back from Ocean City once looking like the grapes of wrath, stuff tied all over the bike.

If I take someone for a ride she'll have to 1) be skinny 2) sit on my lap because my seat is 1/2 the size it used to be. And I don't have passenger pegs

Johnie - the chopper was a rider till I mothballed it away. Actually went down the road well and was fun to ride and bar hop around on. When Godzilla was here in Michigan I rode on it with the guys until I turned back because I wasn't making the long journey with them.

Just like I put on my K5 when I bought it new in 1975. My girlfriend and I rode it packed up with camping gear from southern NH to northern Maine one weekend in 75 and hiked Mt Katahdin, rode up Friday afternoon, camped outside the park as they don't allow bikes in the park, hitched a ride in the morning to the trailhead on Saturday then hitched back to the campground after the day hike, slept late and rode back Sunday. I remember that a small bird flew in my front wheel on the way home on the highway. Got feathers everywhere.....

I have another K5 now, but don't have that Kool backrest on it, though I do have one of those backrests hanging on the wall in the mancave.

take a two man tent, lay the clothes, sleeping bag, food, etc....roll it all up...tie it to the bar, put your feet up on the highway bars, tilt the high rise bars back a little, lean back.....your golden....
..circa 1972....
