If you wanted a non NOS looking part you should have bought and old one and polished it up. I am not being harsh, but a NOS part means you want to keep an original look. I am not really a purist. I look at some of the Cafes that Sparty and other have done, and I they have transformed the bike in a way these were meant to be transformed. What I don't like is some of these Frankenstein mods that are a bit of this and that, you are not looking at a complete work, you are looking at an accumulation of mis matched parts.

If you polish it, you are doomed to repeat the polish process in perpetuity.

If you are really feeling guilty about it (I would too) then find somone on here with a nice old one and trade them. Mine is polished and I love it, but it looked like hell when I started. They all polish up and look good

polishing will mean re-polishing, that's all there is to it. much more I've found than I anticipated when I first did it. Now I shoot the polished pieces with a clear enamel. my generator emblem was very scratched, so I cut a piece of 1/8th aluminium sheet, hammered it round, and presses and machine screwed it into the place the original had been.

as for the "bits and pieces" constructions that are sometimes unveiled here, While I've seen a few innovations that I wouldn't put on my bike, I seen many more that I would, which suggests that in the pushing of boundaries there is a service. Personally, I started with a piece of bike anyway, and had to discover what a cb500K1 looked like from joining this site. from there, I was able to view the range of influences and tastes that pointed me in the direction of a Halliwood-type cafe.

I'm enjoying the experience of creating something that looks exactly the way that I want it to; or, if it doesn't, I enjoy the fact that I can tear it down, and start all over again...few things in life let you do that and ride them too.
