Simple Load Test?
« on: July 20, 2023, 01:09:44 PM »
Went to ride the K1 today and “deader than a door nail”. Hooked up my volt meter to the battery and 12.6 volts. Clipped on my test light and the voltage dropped to zero in about  3 minutes! Been buying these inexpensive glass mat batteries for a while now. No complaints, almost 6 years. They obviously die pretty suddenly, I rode the bike a week ago and all was good….. checked the charging system on start up and no issues.

Went for a lovely ride and then cooled off in our pond. Fantastic weather, I should be cutting grass. Screw it. Going back out this evening for “wing night” at a local bike hangout.

Probably could have gotten a simular reading with the meter attached and a short push on the start button. Is it holding up after a charge?

113F here, I am not riding in this heat, too dangerous for heat exhaustion even using a cooling vest. Friend in Sierra Vista returned home from Tucson and Dr's visit to find his AC had died. Was able to get a technician in today to check it out. It's kaput and too old to consider the expense of a repair. They are installing a new AC system tomorrow for $7000.
Glad I don't have that kind of expense...

I put it on a smart charger I never use and it said” dead”. I’m thinking a battery that won’t light my little screwdriver style test light is pretty much done. RIP.

Hey John... I bought this Schumacher Battery Tester a few years back, havent tried it on any motorcycle batteries but works great on auto batteries.  Dont see why it wouldnt work, will give it a try on my Kawasaki battery, it's been dead for a year [the bike is kick start and does not need a good battery to run properly]. It's a cool tool!

Steve…. I have a cheap-o version with a strip of led lamps and this battery wouldn’t even light it!
