Mirror Glass Fell Off
« on: July 21, 2023, 02:51:44 PM »
Hello!

I was riding on the interstate and noticed my left mirror glass start to spin and then, as luck would have it, fell off and become road fodder.  I know there are still new complete mirrors for sale on the web, but does anyone have experience in simply putting a new glass in?  Do they sell gaskets to help keep it in place?  Any help would be much appreciated.

I’ve tried to have a local glass co. make me a small replacement (for a 1918 Dodge) and it was way more than a new set of mirrors……

So just the glass spun and fly out of the metal disc?
I haven't tried to put in new glass.
Why not just buy a new mirror from Honda? They are still available. This is on your K3? They are only $23 each.

I had the same thing happen last weekend. Just fell right out.

I knew it was going to happen sooner or later, they are both loose in the rubber gasket.

Not sure what I'm going to do........new ones, or good used ones. Price depending.
If it ain't raining, I'm riding.....~~{iii}?~~prost

Yep…. A 1917 Douglas, complete with original sidecar. That’s my wife driving the Dodge. I rode a 1915 Triumph Model H.

Here you go! …… The younger folks were all working for a local museum. Here we’re all dressed up for The Warrior’s Day Parade that opens the Canadian National Exhibition every year. With the oldest vehicles, we led the Parade. My wife drove the Dodge, I rode the Triumph Model H. We pulled a 96 year old VET out of his wheel chair and he rode in the sidecar. His grand daughter thought we were crazy. He stole the show and we had a hoot! We had a few cold beers in the parking lot afterwards. He told me it was the most fun he’d had in 20 years. Special day.

I’m in Ontario Canada. Can you post a picture of yours? The early ones are held on by an acorn nut, behind the mirror. The later style are just a captured ball swivel. I’ll see what I have for lefts.

I had to order some parts for the bike and I ended up buying a set of genuine Honda Chrome mirrors (https://4into1.com/genuine-honda-chrome-mirror-set-88120-333-611-88110-333-611-cb350-cb400f-cb550-cb750/) and they just came in.  A couple things are throwing me for a loop and I am hoping you all can help out.  Here are the details:

1. My bike is a 73' CB 750 with a production date of 06/73
2. The mirrors on the bike have a 4" diameter and have all the Honda logos on the back and the rubber gasket around the mirror.
3. The genuine Honda parts (88120-333-611 & 88110-333-611) are very different:
       a.  They have different Honda markings on the back
       b.  They have no gasket around the mirror
       c.  They are 4.5" diameter

Is what was on the bike the wrong mirror set or is what I just bought the wrong item?  I'd like to have the bike as original as possible so the correct mirror makes a difference to me.

Don't buy crap from 4 into 1, they are not a good company.

South Sound Honda of Olympia Washington is cheapest discount dealer for OEM parts still available.

I replaced the Honda stock mirrors on my CB750 K2 with cheap aftermarket  chrome mirrors for Kawasaki. I gave my K6 stock Z1-900 mirrors last year.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/175377228547?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=ae4ylo-grrk&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=XgCEg0CPSya&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

Honda stock mirrors too short. I saw my arms only, not the traffic behind me.

These look ok and are adjustable by rotating mirror to make it to sit wider.

Photo below before I had turned mirrors to sit wider for better view.

Sam…. I have one “extra” left. Mirror has no markings on the back and no rubber gasket showing around the edge. About 4.5 inches in overall diameter. Not perfect, but perfectly usable. You can have it for postage. Should be around $20? John D.

Thanks so much for the photos and offer.  In looking to return the mirror it seems shipping and handling both ways (sent to me and sent back) means that I'd lose a decent amount on the mirrors (essentially the cost of one mirror with nothing to show for it).  I'll just slap these on and see how they do for now.

Apart from that, can anyone tell what mirrors have been on my bike?  Are they meant for a CB500 or other bike? It's odd that the ones on the bike where 4 inches while the OEM ones I bought are 4.5 inches.
