So I finally went out and got my new bike last week, decided that my 550 spends too much time undergoing modification to be a daily rider. So I went out and bought a '07 Triumph Speed Triple.

This thing rocks!

Here it is fresh from the dealership

And now, 600 miles, new exhaust, mirrors and plate hanger later

Sticking strictly to bolt on mods with this one though...

please please please go buy a cb headlight and mount one in place of the two... throw some old school guages on while your at it.

Nah, the "bug eyes" are staying, makes it different from everything else out there. (and I like 'em anyway

)

I do have a bracket coming to mount the headlights to the forks though, tucks the lights and the gauge cluster closer to the forks/triple clamp. Old school guages would be nice, but I think that finding something suitable that would mate up with the triumph electronic pick ups might be a problem....

The old bike looks a little different these days too...

But I have to get my ARD Mk2 mag up and running before I can get it back on the road, and finish mounting the new seat.

That speed triple is BADDD..
I might be picking up one of those myself soon if things work as they just might...
I wonder how low you can make one of those and still have it be rideable ?

That would be an interesting look...

I did see "lowering link" on eBay that a vertically challenged rider came up with to lower the back end an inch.... (standover is 32", makes parking lot turn arounds and backing up a little interesting for me @ 5'8")

Though I'm sure an inch lower isn't what you have in mind...

I have lots of friends with newer sportbikes, so I know (and have actually installed) lots of lowering links..
I was just wondering how low you could actually go and still have the thing "speed bump" friendly ?
I really want to get a all black one, wrap the pipes, and do a more modern day version of my CB750...

your right... the cb has taken on a new look. it looks great both ways. btw, what did you do w/ the old bodywork?

really i just offered the headlight suggestion to make people forget about that awful rectangular headlight suggestion

I've been lurking on the RAT forums for a bit, still need to register. Just found the other one last night, same story...

The arrow is awesome, louder, but not obnoxious at all, plus it really cleans up the bike.

Proteal-

Given the amount of travel in the suspension, I'm not sure you could get away with much more than a few inches without radically stiffening things up...

Heffay-

The old seat was a pretty hacked up deal, just a ebay thing I cut up to make fit. The tank I still have, I had to have it boiled again because I was working to smooth out one of the knee dents and overstretched the metal and developed a leak. It just needs to be welded up (easy) and have the bodywork re-done (a little more time consuming)...

No worries!! Everyone has their own opinion of what looks good! If all of our bikes looked the same it would be pretty boring. I think the clip-ons and the instrument/headlight bracket will clean things up a lot, should take care of most of the things I wanted to do to it before I even got it home...

I prefer the faired Daytona 575 which is very "Fireblade-ish"

But that sure looks mean! What's it sound like? - I love the triple wail. (nearly as good as the VFR growl...)

I thought about it, but it would be weird for me and my girlfriend to have matching bikes...

. And she got hers first sooo...

No I've liked the Speed Triple since the original came out, and when they re-designed it in '05 I knew I had to get one, just been waiting for the right financial moment.

The sound with the Arrow is great, a nice low howl to it when you throttle up, but not as loud as I expected, though probably twice as loud as the stock cans. The Two Brothers pipe on my girlfriend's 675 is way louder!

I'll definitely keep the updated pictures coming, should be about a month for the adjustable clip-ons and instrument bracket (from Germany), but as soon as they're on I'll post up some more pics!

The only Daytona I get to ride is this old 900 from 1995. It's a bit of a brute. Very heavy ("long legged" the press would call it). It's not mine but lives in Jim Shea's garage (actually belongs to Eamon (UKCB750CAFERACER) who is PC-less at the moment.
