Which leads me to this question: For those of us fortunate enough to own multiple SOHC's or any other motorcycles, how do you keep some of them from sitting around and getting this problem?
I add about 2 ounces of [2-stroke] oil to the gas and ride a mile or two to get it into the bowls. This prevents the dry-powder clogging of the emulsifier holes (and sometimes pilot jets' metering hole) that so often happens when the bowls dry out. It also helps avoid rust inside the tank.
Normally now, since we have no lead in the gas, I ride with the oil in the tank all the time, anyway. The bike always starts like on a warm summer's day when the end of winter comes.
