Basic wiring help needed
« on: July 25, 2023, 09:20:22 AM »
I put a new wire harness, left and right controls and ignition switch on my 1974 CB750. I’m confused on how the wires need to be connected at  headlight bucket. I did have all lights working before but many wires were tape and had different colors so I wanted to replace them. I’m wonder exactly how the wires connect in the bucket because now I don’t have power at lights when ignition switch is in first position. Please excuse my English but I’m trying.

On this website we are typing on there are wiring diagrams I have found to be very helpful. They have the proper wire colors.

I have heard that a few aftermarket hand controls may have incorrect wire colors or maybe at least one extra wire.

Where did you get the new harness and hand controls from?

The last picture you posted has 1975/76 front turn signals. What is the manufacture date on the steering neck vin plate?

Here is the diagram that should cover your model.

here is the directory where you can navigate to each diagram.

Ok to answer the questions, the date on the vin plate is 12/73 CB750-23356037
I don’t know where the turn signals came from. They were on bike when I got it.
My manager bought the parts for me at Amazon and came from 4 into 1. I used the multimeter and checked for continuity at both ends of every wire first and tested good. I found the diagram on here before and use it to do the wiring. I can’t figure out why when the key is turn to first position there are no lights working at all. My question is what is the first thing I need to look at?

If you want to email me direct on blj@blj.org.uk with pictures of the two switches and wire colours i will try and help you out BUT do remember i am in UK so answers will depend on time difference and work so not instant, first question does your loom have 1 fuse or 3

The battery is shows 5.8 volts so it is charging on charger now. If I don’t have the 12 volts tomorrow morning I will buy a new battery. It has 3 fuses.
