CB550K2 wire mystery
« on: July 30, 2023, 08:40:02 AM »
Hi everyone I'm a newbie to the site , I live in Manchester , UK and my Name is Trevor. I've just purchased a CB5502. The headlight bowl was cracked so  i purchased a new one. \When I've come to fit the new one I have a brown wire with a red tracer and the female connector sleeve with a transparent and yellow sleeve. Can any one tell which colour wire goes to it. I've checked as many wiring diagrams as I can find,  but none show it.
The bike is an USA import. I'm sorry if this is in the wrong place but as I said I'm new to the club

Cant remember exactly but the red/brown connectscto a different colour, what happens is power comes from the start button down the loom to headlamp fuse, back up the loom on a different colour to the lh dimmer switch.
Come to the uk forum quite a few people have us imports so may have the answer.
The other answer is to fit a uk rh switch so you can turn the lights off

Welcome Doctee!
I'm not sure what you mean by 'with a red tracer'. This model is supposed to have a brown wire female in the headlamp bucket not connected. Has to do with that this US model lacks the socalled positionlight, which the CB500K2 GENERAL EXPORT has, a model that uses the same wire harnass. Also I don't know what you mean by 'the female connector sleeve with a transparent and yellow sleeve'.
Have you consulted the specific wiring diagram for the Cb550K2 (aka CB550 '76) yet? It's on p.172 in the addendum of the Shop Manual CB500-550. You'll find that manual here in a good resolution: https://www.dropbox.com/s/lirtu1euydi0rol/Honda%20CB500_CB550%20%20Four%20Service%20Manual%20Ammended.pdf?dl=0.
Are the headlight and both handlebar switch units the original US ones?

Red tracer means red stripe, and on the us model i remember one of the clear female connector cover sleeves was half yellow

I have just studied forsaid wiring diagram (p. 172) and that tells me the Br/R should be connected to the Y-tube. Br/R comes from the main fuse and powers the HEADLIGHT DIMMER - TURN SIGNAL - HORN SWITCH.
