Replacement "E-Z" type idle mixture screw for Keihin PD46
« on: August 08, 2023, 07:03:01 AM »
I find adjusting the mixture screws on my '78 550K to be unnecessarily fiddly -- especially the one for cylinder 2.  Is there a compelling reason (other than aesthetics) NOT to replace the oem screws with a longer, thumb-type adjuster screw?  Does a high-quality one even exist for these carbs?  I found something like this after a half-assed search but I'm wary:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/363831200874?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=LEFzai6xSqu&sssrc=2047675&ssuid=b0bw8nRdS4q&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

Assuming I should stick with oem, what tool have people found that makes this job a little easier -- is there a good, low-slop, right-angle screwdriver that would work?

Thanks as always.

That's brilliant....if it works....

If the taper can be guaranteed to work, I don't see a problem.

It is a pain to adjust #2, I bought a snubby screw driver.

I have serious doubts that the ebay offering will work correctly.  I made a right angle tool from a slot car axle, ring and pinion gear set.  Just ground the axle end to a straight  slot tip.

But, a short driver bit and oven gloves can work, too.

If that were only about half the price . . .

I've seen these and thought about getting a set just to have an easier time adjusting on the fly when I'm fine-tuning, or if I take a trip over the mountains. I even have the Motion Pro tool, but it is so long I can't even put it in my tank bag.

Until someone (not me) can confirm that they're actually correctly made though, I'm not going to throw them in my carbs. I fiddle with that adjustment so rarely that these screws wouldn't really make my life easier enough to justify the purchase.

That was why I made my own version with parts I had laying around.    But, if you can make one for less than $30 time and materials, you might have a lucrative offering for sales!

Bit late and not the same carbs, but anyway, others might be similar.
In the K7 PD41A BPG^ (Australian?) carbs the screws have a bit sticking out about a 1/4 inch.
Stuck old overflow hose over them cut on an angle so I could count turns easier.
2-3 are a little longer to make it a little easier to reach.

Edit.   How did I make that bold text? doesn't matter.
It was square brackets around the B fixed it no more bold
