What's Best?

What do you think is the best thing to clean out caliper bore(s).

If they are not pitted, white or green scotch bright should work with brake cleaner I think. I can't remember what I used the last time I cleaned one. If they are pitted there is not much you can do except replace. I had to replace mine, they were very pitted.

 I use a small brass wire wheel on a dremel tool to lightly clean the groove. Scotchbrite on the rest. I usually find the pits on the piston and not the bore.

+1 to above, but before using the wheel I use a hooked dental pick to really scratch out the crap that builds up behind the seal. Especially the corner you can’t see. The wire wheel will just polish that crust, it really needs to be scraped out thoroughly or the seal will be too tight on the piston and brakes will drag.

If it’s an early bike with an early original that’s pitted it can be sleeved and saved.

Runs about $100 bucks.
