New member from Illinois
« on: August 18, 2023, 07:37:50 AM »
I just purchased my first CB750! It's a K6 basket case that I got for $200 and I'll be bringing her back to life. This bike will win no beauty contests, but I will make it safe and reliable. This will definitely be a low budget build and I'll start a new thread documenting all the work done and cost of every repair. All the labor will be done by myself. Anyway, here's what I'm starting with:

I forgot to mention that I have already made a $50 donation to the forum in appreciation of all the information available.

Welcome aboard TT from NC, you will like it here, plenty of help.

Looks like a nice winter project, Good luck.

In the Project Shop sub forum, it would be good to start a new thread there with your progress and pics.

Welcome aboard from NH.
The 76 is a great bike. I had one new until 1983, sold at 45,000 miles. Wish I hadn't sold it. But I have another in project stage. And a 75 also but it runs.

Hold on now!  Just settle down and take your time.  Have you never heard the old racers adage?  It certainly applies to these bikes too..."You got cheap, fast, and dependable.  Pick two."  and in this case, fast is referring to the speed of your re-hab.

Welcome aboard
If it works good, it looks good...

Welcome from WI. I think all of us will agree that Mr. HONDA built some great engines/bikes. Good chance you will be able to get that running with no big problems. Good luck and keep us informed...looking forward to your project thread.

How did it turn out? You didn't start a project thread on it as you said you were going to do.....

Sorry about that. Every time I worked on the bike and thought about taking some pics, I couldn't pick up my phone because my hands were too greasy. I spent about a month working on it and got it as far as I want to take it. Then winter came and I lost all interest in it. This is the stuff I did to the bike:
Install new rear tire and tube. New rear wheel bearings. New rear brake pads. New chain and front sprocket. New shocks. New clutch disks and clutch cable. New brake and clutch levers. New NOS Honda Mirrors. Rebuild master cylinder. Rebuild front brake caliper and new pads. New ignition switch and seat lock (matching key). New seat. New ignition coil (newer 1980 style with replaceable wires). New plug wires and plugs. New points and adjust timing. Timing chain adjusted. Ignition coil powered directly with a relay. All lighting (excluding headlight) converted to LED's. Indicator panel has diode mod, so it works correctly. Voltage regulator converted to newer style solid state. New battery. Front fork oil change. Carburetors ultrasonically cleaned and rebuilt. New oil filter and 10W50 oil change. The only thing the bike needs is a front tire. It's the only thing I didn't get around to doing.

The bike runs and rides great. It was a fun experience bringing her back to life. The bike is now up for sale, so I can get a used Triumph T100. That bike is just a better fit for me. Here's what she looks like now...
