Topic: Clutch issues on CB 650

Finally got my 81 CB650 running correctly. Took it for its first ride around the neighborhood today and something funny was happening with the clutch. My only experience is with dirt bikes, but this seems like it shouldn't be happening.

So bike starts great. Goes into gear fine. However, the bike would only move if I let the clutch lever out without any throttle. Mind you the bike was still relatively cold. If I gave it much of any throttle, I could let the clutch lever out all the way and the bike acted like it was in neutral. Once moving, the bike acted and shifted normally however.

Do I need to let the bike get warmer? Or is this a problem with my clutch?

You are gonna have to look up the process for adjusting the clutch actuator first and then the cable.  I have never done this on a 650.  Probably some one more familiar with the 650s will be by to give you some pointers.  It's gonna be a lot more sensitive and finicky than a dirt bike which are built to take a lot more clutch punishment with a wide range of adjustment.  If these adjustments don't get you running, it will be time to start looking at actual clutch problems.  Also do you know what has been in there for motor oil?
