Pretty much had another war also in the late 1800's and early 1900's with the "rabbit plague". Its what happens sometime when non native critters are introduced. Anybody wanna go down to Florida for a little Python hunting ?  :)  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rabbit_plagues_in_Australia

I watch for the python stories out of Florida. They are interesting. Especially some about scientists trying to figure out biological countermeasures. Just like the genetically engineered mosquitoes they unleashed that would only produce male offspring thereby killing off the females with enough time by eliminating any further females. Apparently that was fairly effective but it only yields so much legs before you have to release another batch...

The native species have started to learn survival skills against the pythons apparently, it's a start.
Problem is the pythons are slowly moving north and warming temps just allow them to continue to expand their range.

Was it in Kentucky this past week some lady spotted a 3 foot alligator on her porch. Responders captured it.

Non-native species can reek havoc everywhere. We have Mediterranean Geckos all over Tucson which are related to  escaped or released pets. Luckily they coexist without issue and there is enough bugs about to feed them and all the other native lizards. They are not hostile to other lizards and as far as I know they are not cross breeding.

Whoever thought it made sense to allow a snake farm near a swamp should be relieved of their duties. Actually, to me, the idea of a snake farm seems redundant.
There was a large snake for a summer at the drag strip we used to race at every week. I saw it crossing the return road and thought someone had lost a tie down strap, it was as big as my arm and longer than I am tall. Employees had also seen it, they left it alone to ward off ground squirrels. We assumed it was an escaped or released pet.
A bounty seems to be a good method of reducing the numbers, but I doubt anything will eliminate them.
