National Motorcycle Museum Anamosa Ia. closing
« on: April 29, 2023, 08:11:37 AM »
I saw on FB today that the museum will probably close at the end of the year. That's a sad deal, if it happens, the bikes they own will go to the Mecum Auction.
The lost revenue from covid and loss of the founder contributed to it. Hopefully some rich guy will come along and save the collection, if not the museum intact. I remember seeing a pretty much complete 750 sandcast that had a bunch of incorrect parts.

Sounds like a Lincoln Highway road trip from here.

It sounds like September is the end of the road for the museum. I'll load up my brother and go to pay our respects.

I stopped at the McDonald's next door in 2017 on my way to Colorado for the Reunion. Unfortunately I was a couple days behind schedule and didn't have time to visit.

A few of my kid's friends are riding to the Museum Saturday and asked me to ride along. Of course, that's the same day as the bike races in Eddyville. Choices suck sometimes. Maybe Eddyville Sunday.

The Museum was good, but obviously nothing new and the loaner bikes are all gone. There were a couple not for sale bikes but most have auction tags from mecum. I'd love to bid on a Vincent, there were three black shadows, one knight and a red rapide. The reality is, without selling all my bikes and a car it's not realistic. I'll be watching anyway.
There is a nice red 69 750 diecast there, I spotted a few incorrect parts on it but it's still really nice. I need to take a good luck at my diecast, it's around the same serial number.
I was wrong, three Rapides, one was red two black, one black shadow and one black knight. The Rapides are estimated from $60 to 72K and the shadow from 72 to 80K.  I think the estimates may be low.

Oh my, I heard at least one of the Vincent Rapides sold at a price that could have been within my reach. Now I have that to mourn over. I'll tell myself it wasn't complete and couldn't run. No guts, no glory.

But if you had bid on it......it probably would have doubled.  Oh well, we'll never know that one.
