Random CB750Kwestions
« on: September 18, 2023, 11:19:17 AM »
I don't think these needed posts of their own, but they are things I wonder.

1.) What's the purpose of the stock seat strap? Never once had a stock 750 seat... are they there so you know which side is yours and which belongs to your passenger? So your butt gets a red line on it after 200 miles of riding? To annoy tall people who sit back that far? To keep the foam from sproinging into the air when parked?

2.) Did Honda sell official Honda accessories for the CB750K in the 70's? Or were all add-ons aftermarket? (Aside from the race kit) If so, and you bought those accessories, could you share a photo or two?

3.) Did anyone here buy Honda's CR race kit with their bike? (or after) I saw an advert somewhere online for a Honda kit that had the CR tank, pistons, cam, fairing, and many other bits. Looks very expensive, fancy, and wicked. If you bought it, how much was it originally? Have any photos to show off?

4.) Anyone come up with an alternative for the rubber tank holder under the seat? I replaced mine with a new one, but after working on general maintenance all summer, it's just about ruined already. Like the easy removal function, but rubber with slits in it is just a tear waiting to happen. I've noticed that some of you have made your own bits for the bike, and even sell them. Surely this part has been improved?

 Hondaline were the official accessories.

1. Many countries required a passenger hand hold.  The seat strap serves this function.

2. Like Don said Hondaline was the official Honda accessories brand.  I don't think Hondaline came out until the mid 70s.  The CB750 spawned a huge aftermarket parts market with cafe race, touring and chopper accessories.

3. I believe the kit cost $10,000 in the US.  Honda didn't really want customers to buy it and race the CB750.  The kits were made available by Honda to satisfy racing homologation rules.

4. Not sure.  Aftermarket rubber parts are usually junk anyway.  The genuine Honda parts are  better quality.

Ten thousand WOT?! $10,000 at the time when the bike itself cost around $1500?
Obviously I failed to grasp that this was a "real" race kit. I only saw the photo of the set, and thought it was just an upgrade it to make a guy feel cool. Well, that is definitely way cooler than I thought.

Thanks guys for these answers. The seat-belt thing is hard to believe for other reasons. That's a dodgy-ass safety feature. And I definitely wouldn't want to have used that to hold onto while on my dad's bike... phew.

As for Q 4, the rubber on my cb400 is now 48 years old and still holds the tank perfectly, what do you want to improve on that?

The rubber strap that holds the tank at rear must be Honda stock. Not expensive.

Same with battery strap. Honda stock.

I have lifted my tank many times during several years, no problem.
