Help ID my 71 CB500 air box parts?
« on: September 26, 2023, 07:42:44 PM »
I’m trying to rescue a CB that was in mid-stride towards cafe racer. I want to run the original airbox instead of pods. I am attaching photos of air box parts that came with the bike when I purchased it. I need to know which parts belong to this bike and what parts I’m missing. I am attaching photos of what I have. Thanks for the help!

I think the plenum on the left, the one with the straight drain tube is the earlier one.  (CB500)
And the shorter filter box without the drain is the early one. (CB500)

Both plenums will fit, the straight one is original the angled is the superceeded part.
The short box with no tube is 500, other is 550.
Tool box tray is 500 and if fuse holder is on other side worth a lot.
You will need all the mounting brackets, plates, spacers and bolts. There is a parts book in Ashs dropbox

I’m learning to love this community!  Thanks for answering my questions. I wasn’t able to determine the differences in the plenums and air boxes using the diagrams I consulted. Thanks again!!

Honda seldom changed the drawings in the parts list from the initial publishing, just part numbers, so it does make it hard sometimes to pin down exactly what changed about some parts.
