Oil galleries clogged?
« on: September 14, 2023, 07:09:33 PM »
so I just got my project cafe racer back on the road and its been running great. the only complaint I have is the major upper engine noise when cold starting.

before any assumptions are made, tappets and cam chain have been adjusted.

my 76 750 has 15k miles, and is been all "restored" except for the engine. original ware from factory.

the subject id like to know about is additives I can use to clean the oil galleries if they are clogged, I say clogged because the noise only goes away when the oil thins out. and I'm guessing reaching the top finally.

any help would be much appreciated . thanks.

No additives just strip down and clean out

if your oil galleries were clogged, the cam and rockers would be shot already...

Pull a plug from the head cover on each side and observe. There should be oil when it runs.  Maybe one plug at a time, it can get messy.

Also check for an exhaust leak. They will make crazy noises and sometimes diminish when heated up.

Have you done a carb sync? That usually irons out a lot of noise. What oil is in it?
